éS A prepositional phrase consists of a preposition and the noun or
pronoun that acts as its object as well as any other words (usually ad-

#ample, in ╖Charles surveyed the land near the very murky lagoon,╗ the
#prepositional phrase consists of the preposition ╖near╗, the article ╖
#╖the╗, the adverb ╖very╗, the adjective ╖murky╗, and the preposition's
#object ╖lagoon╗. A prepositional phrase functions either as an adjective
or an adverb.ïAn adjective prepositional phrase must come directly
#after the noun or pronoun it modifies.ïFor example, in ╖I have located
#╖the picture with the large, bright landscape, ╗the prepositional phrase
#╖with the large, bright landscape ╗acts as an adjective describing the
kind of picture searched for.ïAdverb prepositional phrases can modify
